The SPF Confession:
Nobodyʼs Making (But Should)
Letʼs get something straight before another sunspot shows up without warning: SPF isnʼt just a beach-day buddy. Itʼs a daily essential, like drinking water or
pretending you understand all the ingredients in your skincare serum.
Yet here we are, skipping sunscreen on cloudy days, lounging indoors like glass windows are made of SPF 50, and telling ourselves, “Itʼs fine. Iʼm not even outside.ˮ
Spoiler: ITʼS NOT FINE!
Yes, Even Introverts Need SPF
Do you think working from home means escaping sun damage? Think again.
UVA rays – the sneaky, slow-aging culprits of the sun, can pass right through glass windows. They donʼt burn you (thatʼs UVBʼs job), but they do quietly break
down collagen, increase pigmentation, and accelerate aging like a badly written plot twist.
Even your laptop or phone screen isnʼt entirely innocent. Blue light exposure, especially in high doses, may worsen hyperpigmentation over time. So unless youʼre hiding in a windowless bunker in some CIA black site, SPF is still a must.
Reapply or Regret!
Most of us treat sunscreen like a morning handshake: done once, forgotten forever.
But hereʼs the science: SPF effectiveness fades after 23 hours. Especially if youʼre sweating, touching your face, or enjoying life in front of a fan, your protection fades faster than your morning motivation.
No, you donʼt need to slather lotion over your makeup mid-meeting.
Just keep a lightweight SPF mist or cushion compact in your handbag. A quick dab or spritz = protection + peace of mind.
How to Layer SPF Without Looking Like a Glazed Donut
Want smooth protection without the pilling mess? Follow this layering cheat sheet:
-
Moisturizer first – A hydrated base keeps everything in place.
- Let layers absorb – 60 – 90 seconds between products helps avoid chaos.
- Go easy on serums/oils – Too slippery? SPF wonʼt stick.
- Use the two-finger rule – Two fingers worth of product for your face and neck.
- SPF is the final skincare step – Makeup comes after. Never before.
Use It Like You Mean It
Think of sunscreen like a seatbelt. Useless if worn wrong, or if not worn at all.
Sun damage doesnʼt always shout. It whispers quietly, over years. Until one day your mirror casually says, “Surprise!ˮ
So letʼs cut the excuses and start using SPF properly. Because sunscreen only works if you properly apply it and yes, reapply it.
Your future skin is watching. (Kind of like the eye of Sauron… but less dramatic. Hopefully.)
